Badia a Coltibuono's Toscana Rosso Montebello, year 2015, is a captivating red wine blend of ancient Tuscan grape varieties like Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, and others. Steered by the passionate vision of Emanuela Stucchi Prinetti and her siblings, this wine embodies the revival of nearly extinct grape varieties meticulously cultivated to craft a unique interpretation of Tuscan tradition. This organic wine represents the third release since its debut in 2011, showcasing exceptional winemaking in a perfect vintage year.

Montebello opens with a vivid, ruby-red hue, hinting at its rich profile. On the nose, it presents an intricate bouquet of leather, well-aged meat, and ripe strawberries, accentuated with black pepper, burnt clay, and a hint of orange zest. These initially robust aromas evolve gracefully, revealing layers of mocha, cocoa, and earthy porcini mushrooms. The palate is intense yet refined, offering a lush textural experience with well-integrated, smooth tannins and vibrant red fruit flavors underscored by a delicate acidity. This wine is not heavy, presenting itself as a luxurious and elegant powerhouse, balancing strength and finesse with ease. Its finish is long and complex, leaving a lasting impression of gracefully matured tannins and velvety fruit. With great aging potential, Montebello promises to evolve beautifully over the coming years.

Vinifikation
Hailing from the esteemed Chianti Classico hills, the terroir of Badia a Coltibuono is exceptional, contributing significantly to the wine's character. Harvesting is carried out manually, respecting each ancient grape's unique maturation times. The vinification is done without external yeast strains and temperature control, separating each grape variety in open 500-liter French oak barrels to allow natural fermentation. Post fermentation, individual varietal wines mature in small French oak barrels for about 12 months, followed by blending into a final cuvée which ages for an additional six months in larger French and Austrian barrels prior to bottling.

Mad & Servering
Montebello perfectly complements premium cuts of pork or veal, ideally grilled to enhance its complex flavors. It also shines when paired with summer venison dishes, especially when accompanied by sautéed chanterelles. Serve this wine in generously sized glasses to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity. It is best enjoyed slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C, and benefits from decanting to open its layered aromas and flavors.
